Prairie Bluff Farm is the home of Pasture Patterns Eggs and Beef. Our mission is to provide high quality, certified organic eggs and beef from pastured livestock to the greater Madison area. CSA members also have the opportunity to visit and understand how their food is produced.

Our family purchased Prairie Bluff Farm in 1992. There have been no synthetic fertilizers or pesticides used on the property since 1993, when we converted nearly all the cropland to permanent pasture, providing a rich diversity of grasses and legumes for the livestock to consume.

During the warmer months, late April through early October, we pasture about 1800 laying hens in moveable shelters. Depending on the length of the grass, the shelters are moved either daily or every other day to fresh pasture. The vitamin rich forage, supplemented with a balanced mix of organic grains and minerals, creates a nutritious egg rich in vitamins, minerals and omega-3 fatty acids. The eggs are collected, cleaned and packed without the use of chemicals and according to USDA organic standards. The eggs are stored in a walk-in cooler and delivered in a refrigerated van to the coolers at the pick-up locations. We typically deliver eggs that are less than three days old and we guarantee them to be no more than six days old.

The 20 beef cattle also enjoy a long pasturing season and are 100% grass fed. Through managed grazing, we keep the cattle on younger grass which is more desirable to the cattle, more nutritious and creates a higher quality meat.

Prairie Bluff Farm is family owned and operated. Please visit our website to view our egg production video and for additional information on becoming a member, nutritional information, management practices during the colder months, and opportunities to visit. We hope you’ll join us!
