Delivering great flavor and nutrition starts in the field and continues all the way to the customer’s fridge. Tim Landgraf and Jan Libbey will take you step-by-step through their open-air packing and processing system for their 140-member vegetable CSA, covering post-harvest handling and food safety. Then it’s your turn! As part of a harvest team, you’ll take to the field to put your harvesting knowledge to the test. Construction diagrams of One Step at a Time Gardens current facility as well as of planned improvements will be available. Guest speakers include Margaret Smith, ISU Value-Added Extension.

Following the field day, there will be a dessert potluck. Please bring a dessert to share, your own tableware and a lawn chair. Beverages will be provided. This field day is a collaboration between Practical Farmers of Iowa and the Iowa Fruit and Vegetable Working Group.
