2011 Annual Report
The Coalition’s 2011 Annual Report is now available.
With more staff, more farms, and more CSA members in our region than ever before, the Madison Area CSA Coalition headed into 2011 with ambitious goals to energize, strengthen, and connect our community in even more ways. We’re thrilled to report that this year we received formal 501(c)3 non-profit status, which increases our ability to receive public and private donations and to lead and respond to critical developments in our local food system. We also doubled our community workshop series, and hosted more farm training and resource sharing activities for farmers than ever before.
In these pages, we’ve documented the hopeful story of strength in numbers and power in community. The 50 farms of the Coalition together provided more than 25,000 individuals in 20 counties a significant portion of their meals for more than 20 weeks (and often throughout the year!). Our farms span a wide geographic region in Wisconsin and Illinois, and our work clearly demonstrates that together we can do this; we can feed ourselves AND our neighbors top-quality, pure food from our local soils, while keeping our hard-earned dollars circulating in our local communities and fostering deep, lasting relationships with each other and with our environment.
Next year, we will celebrate an important milestone: the 20th anniversary of the CSA Open House. This remarkable benchmark demonstrates the trail blazing dedication of our farmers, the long-standing commitment of our members, and the real possibility for lasting change built on cooperation and good food. We look forward to your ongoing support and humbly thank you for the many years of inspiring partnership.
