Following a survey they conducted earlier this year, the National Young Farmers Coalition published a guide of results and recommendations for increasing the success of young farmers. The survey garnered responses from over 3,500 farmers under the age of 40, and brought to light the common challenges young farmers currently face.
With numerous infographics and case studies of farmers across the country, this guide outlines the demographics of young farmers today, the barriers they feel most in farming, and proposals of specific state and federal policy changes that would aid in creating a thriving generation of farmers. Find the guide here or visit http://www.youngfarmers.org for more information on the National Young Farmers Coalition.
“Ultimately, we believe that the only way to win back young people to the farm is to show them that farming is a career worth pursuing, and that it can support one through all phases of life. If we help these new farmers make it, more will follow.”
