FairShare Announces Newly Endorsed Farms for 2014 FairShare welcomes eight new farms for the 2014 season, bringing the total number of endorsed farms to 50. Each fall, FairShare accepts applications from farms interested in being formally endorsed for the following growing season. Farmers must submit a full application and undergo an in-person interview conducted by currently-endorsed farmers. FairShare farms must grow or produce the vast majority of their products on farm, be certified organic or in transition to organic certification (for fruit and vegetable crops), and demonstrate an ability to provide a high level of customer service. The Nuts and Bolts of CSA Sign-Up How do you choose your farm? Follow this process: 1. Do your homework Become familiar with the farms in your community by reading about farms offerings and their philosophy in our Farm List.  A good way to start? Find out  which farms deliver to a location near you (step 2!). 2. Use the Farm Search Tool and Pick-Up Locations Map Explore share types with the CSA Farm Search and find pick-up locations convenient to your home, workplace, gym, or school  via the interactive Pick-Up Locations Map. If you prefer to pick up your food at the farm, you can also…
Donate Today, Support FairShare As  local farmers rest their fields in winter, we reflect back on what we’ve accomplished this year, thanks to you and to our other supporters. We’re proud to have played an important role in encouraging tremendous growth within the Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) movement.  More farmers are growing more food for more families (over 11,000 shares in 2013!) and we’re seeing the incredible impact of this dynamic local food system on communities across Wisconsin. Thank you for being a part of this transformation. But we’re just getting started. We need your timely support to help FairShare educate and engage more farmers…
FairShare Staff Member Explores Local Food in Korea In mid-October, I received an amazing invitation to travel to Seoul, South Korea to talk about Community Supported Agriculture in the United States. Now, you should know that I am a big (make that HUGE) fan of all kinds of Asian cuisine, including kimchi, Korea’s national dish. However, the closest I had been to Asia was San Francisco’s Chinatown (admittedly the largest Chinatown outside of Asia). Needless to say, I leaped at the opportunity to experience this region of the world firsthand! After…

Kiera Mulvey Departing FairShare CSA Coalition A letter from FairShare's outgoing Executive Director, Kiera Mulvey: This December, I’ll be stepping down from my position as Executive Director at FairShare. It’s hard to believe that it has already been five years, and though five years is a drop in the bucket in the long history of MERF/MACSAC/FairShare, it has been an exciting, challenging, and inspiring time to lead this dynamic organization. I’ve had the great pleasure of working with some of the most innovative, passionate, and dedicated farmers, farm members, staff, and partner organizations…
Farmers and Consumers Unite! "We all want food safety, but we don't want to destroy the vibrant local and sustainable farming communities we've worked so hard to build because we allowed the FDA to implement poorly-designed regulations." ~ Margaret Krome, Michael Fields Agricultural Institute Over the next month, farmers need to briefly come in from the fields, and consumers need to wipe their fingers clean from end-of-season tomato juice, and go to…
