THE RIDE

BIKE THE BARNS

Madison, WI

DUE TO THE IMPACTS OF COVID-19, WE HAVE HAD TO MAKE THE DIFFICULT DECISION NOT TO HOLD AN IN-PERSON BIKE THE BARNS EVENT THIS YEAR.

However, do not fear! We have created an incredibly exciting alternative for you all, that highlights all our favorite parts of Bike the Barns: biking, walking, food, community, music, and MORE! If you are still interested in supporting FairShare's work and are looking for a summer full of activities for you, your friends, and your family, join us for Routes to Roots this summer.

WHAT IS BIKE THE BARNS?

Bike the Barns is FairShare CSA Coalition’s largest fundraiser. Proceeds from the ride benefit our organization and the Partner Shares Program, which help low-income families afford farm-fresh veggies. When you sign up for Bike the Barns, you help families in need buy organic food grown right here in Wisconsin by a CSA farmer.

The event features farm tours, gourmet local food, craft libations, on-farm activities and live music. Join us as we bike and bus to ensure food for every family!

THE ROUTE

ROUTE DESCRIPTION

The 2020 Bike the Barns ride will be departing from Lake Farm County Park (Madison,WI).

Riders can choose from two route options: a short route (~30-40miles), and a long route (~60 miles). Participants can expect a scenic ride, around southeastern Dane County, with 3-4 farm stops along the way.

Stay tuned for more route details.

ROUTE CONDITIONS & RIDER SUPPORT

The route is meticulously marked by FairShare staff & volunteers. Every turn is marked with both  directional yard signs and color-coded route arrows on the pavement, and there are caution signs to warn riders of particular conditions, such as steep hills, sharp corners or loose gravel.

Rider support is available throughout the ride, but riders are expected to be prepared to service their own bikes. Please bring extra tubes. On-bike support riders are embedded in the ride and routes are patrolled by support vehicles with amateur (HAM) radio operators and professional bike mechanics.

THE FOOD

The Bike the Barns menu is seasonal, local, and fresh, and the food is almost entirely from FairShare’s organic farms. Madison-area restaurants and caterers will prepare the meals. Bike the Barns offers vegetarian options, but, while we will try, we cannot guarantee gluten-free, vegan, or non-dairy options.

Detailed menus will be updated here as we confirm the menu.

The money raised through Bike the Barns supports The Partner Shares Program, which helps low-income families afford farm-fresh veggies. We are biking to ensure food for every family!

In 2019, Bike the Barns raised more than $40,000 in pledges to help low-income families buy fresh, organic food from a local farm through Community Supported Agriculture (CSA). Let’s empower more families by raising $50,000 this year!

We’ll help you create a personal or team fundraising webpage after you register. Riders are always surprised by how easy (and fun!) it is to meet the fundraising minimum.
