Plowshares & Prairie Farm

Plowshares & Prairie Farm is a CSA and market farm located in Argyle, approximately an hour southwest of Madison in the rolling hills of Wisconsin’s Driftless area. Our small CSA allows us to have a personal touch and get to know our 35 members. The CSA serves Argyle, Madison, and Fitchburg. We currently offer two share sizes - regular and small(er) - for a summer season, as well as a spring share.

The name of our farm reflects our commitment to pairing sustainable food production with strong conservation work. We grow produce on a few acres of our most productive land while working to conserve and restore surrounding native prairie and wetland habitat. Through farm events, we invite members to tour the farm to see where and how their food grows and what we do to conserve the Driftless landscape. We provide weekly newsletters that describe box contents, include recipes and storage tips, and talk about what we have been up to at the farm.

Farmers Scott and Chelsea both have backgrounds in science and environmental policy. Our farm allows us the opportunity to advance a sustainable land use model that provides healthy food for the local community, conserves our native landscape, and helps address broader environmental challenges like climate change. We are lucky enough to pursue our professional and personal passions while spending time “playing in the dirt."
